Following the ancient Japanese tradition, Masatomo Yamaji first changed his name to Ma-Ji in 1985 when he presented his collection at Tokyo Fashion Week. Then, in 1992 he changed his name to Masatomo for Paris Fashion Week and, once again in 2008, to Rynshu Hashimoto.
A year later he became Rynshu to define his modern and elegant style as he continues to design unconventional styles, as well as create films.
For spring/summer 2013, the designer entitles his collection “Light and Shadow” as it is influenced by film, music, and fashion, transcending gender and connecting details to materials.
The collection contrasts light with shadows like a negative of a photo—an effect that utilizes ivory-white cupra and black silk/polyurethane satin. The sense of unisex is heightened by the lack of collars.
The colorful pattern shirts appear to me a slight nod to the Sixties.
