Autumn/Winter ‘13 “Spirit of Indigo” Collection
Specialising in the intensive developing process of indigo yarn dye, Flying Horse Jeans have designed an uncomplicated and accessible line of relaxed denim apparel, including Jeans, Knitwear, Shirting and Outerwear for Autumn/Winter ‘13, inspired by the allure of nomadic Asian travels.
The collection embraces a broad range of authentic and interesting nautical washes; from Bright Ocean Blues to Deep Sea Blacks, all inspired by the Bay of Bengal Sea. Jeans are designed in a wide line of Slim & Straight fits in selvage and non selvage, with an authentic chain–‐stitch, trademark FH signature rivets and an aged motor-‐oil finish, leather back patch. Detailing across the range is kept minimal, focusing on the simplicity and effectiveness of construction and varied washes.
Knitwear comes in T–‐Shirt, Knitted Double Face & Loop Back Jersey cotton styles with tight construction for increased garment wash & added comfort. The foundations for Outerwear are in varying styles of the jean jacket, such as the fitted indigo “Hulk” which is treated with 3D resin to give a ‘lived in’ look.
Each shirt in the collection boasts a special weave or unique pattern to the brand and is produced in Yarn form. Styles are fitted and not over–‐sized; Short hems, slim on the sleeves, across shoulders and torso.
Unusual pockets are also built in to provide interesting detail. To design a distinctive collection, products for the range are created through two unique forms – ‘Yarn’ & ‘Garment’ dyeing. Yarn form is the process of washing the material with indigo dye before it is constructed, allowing for greater wash down & ageing.
As an alternative process, Garment form is the washing of materials after they have been constructed, giving it a vintage look. Both are treated with special softeners and finishes to ensure the final products are soft, comfortable & have a premium quality feel.
About Flying Horse Jeans
Flying Horse Jeans are a British denim brand specialising in Indigo dyeing and a unique construction of denim apparel (Jeans, Shirts, Knitwear & Outerwear). The brand is inspired by nomadic travels in South East Asia and their ability to create amazing indigo washes through different dyeing processes.
Really amazingly designed and have a really cool, niche consumer market. It was founded in October 2010 by friends David Rix and Sanjay Madan, who met whilst working together on a previous assignment and came up with the idea of a new denim brand based on the lifestyle concept of nomadic travels around Asia.
David has over 18 years of design experience working with the likes of Ralph Lauren, Abercrombie & Fitch and VF Europe.
Sanjay has been in the jeans manufacturing industry for over 30 years and owns a factory in Thailand where the brand is produced.
We’ve filmed a ‘How FH Jeans are made’ short film (very Steven Soderbergh/Ocean’s 11 style) which I would like to offer to you and if of interest, an interview with David Rix, founder of the brand.
